The first Ironman Triathlon was won by Gordon Haller. The race was so popular that a lottery had to be implemented to limit the number of participants.

The popularity of the Ironman Triathlon continued to grow and in 1981, the race was moved to the mainland of the United States. The race continued to grow in popularity and in 1989, the Ironman World Championship.

The World Championship is a race that hold annually in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii and is considered to be the pinnacle of Ironman racing. The race consists of a 2.4-mile (3.86 km) swim, a 112-mile (180.25 km) bike ride, and a 26.2-mile (42.195 km) marathon.

Training

Here are some tips to help you get started:

  1.  Start by gradually increasing your distance and intensity. If you are new to endurance sports, it is important to build up your mileage and fitness gradually to avoid injury.
  2.  Make sure you are well-rounded in your training. In order to complete an IRONMAN, you need to be proficient in all three disciplines: swimming, biking, and running.
  3. Train with others whenever possible. Group training can be a great way to push yourself harder and have fun while doing it.
  4. Cross-train as much as possible. Swimming, biking, and running are all great exercises, but they can also be repetitive and monotonous. Mixing up your routine will help keep things interesting.
  5. Take time for recovery. Rest is just as important as training, especially when you are preparing for an endurance event. Make sure you allow your body time to recover in between workouts.
  6. Have a goal. It is important to have a goal to strive for when training for an IRONMAN. Whether it is to finish within a certain time frame or to place in your age group, having a goal will help keep you motivated.
  7. Be patient. It takes time and dedication to train for an IRONMAN.
